It will be of great interest to historians – especially those studying the local history of Lancashire, and those who are interested in the early formation of the trade union movement. Samuel Woods grew from assisting his father in his mine work as a 7 year old boy, to becoming a leader of the trade union movement and a Member of Parliament. This edition includes biographical sketches of his life and contemporary images that help to give a sense of the times.
